Oh, I would have said the Mission, hands down. I've been living in San Francisco for more than half of my life, and I really just have to give it up.

I too find this question hard to answer. I am inclined to say the Mission, although I admittedly haven't eaten in as many restaurants there that I should. I think if it came to it, I would have to say the Inner Sunset based on reliability (many solid, consistently good though not mindblowing restaurants) and variety (great sushi, Vietnamese, Chinese and however you would categorize Park Chow).

yo yo,

don't forget range, conduit, bar tartine, byrite creamery, also all in the mission. i think i'd have to agree with you, though it's true that it's a pretty spread out scene, unlike in NYC where everything awesome seems to be in the village(s). however, we can probably rule out the sunset and those weird neighborhoods south of that, and i guess north beach too.

i'm back in SF, btw, and always up for dinner. the blog will be back soon too. i NEED to talk to you about your gig, which is my dream gig too (well, maybe on a site that is more geared towards my gender).
