This isn't some bucket of chicken a la Front Porch (now THAT was overrated)!!! And it is really quite a good price considering you get a 3 course meal, which you can even get seconds of (or thirds if you're feeling extra gluttonous). SERIOUSLY. It is effing amazing. Revelatory. Really quite a good deal, IMHO...Although the concept of AH is simplicity, comfort...the quality of the experience never suffers. You can tell that there is a lot of thought and care that goes into every meal.

I've been waiting for this review. :-) Glad you liked the chicken. I should write a post about our New Year's brunch at Ad Hoc...fried chicken and waffles!

The fried chicken recipe in Food and Wine is a pretty good template but probably not exact (they can't give away all their secrets!). I do use the brine basically as noted, and the chicken always comes out juicy and flavorful. I think the brine might be the most important step. I just made some over the weekend and sort of winged the batter, and it was still great. I even double dredged this time. :-) I should probably update that post since I started cooking the chicken sous vide before dredging and frying.

I'll agree about Ad Hoc's cupcakes. When I've had them, they were just okay, although the lemon curd cupcake was really good. The best desserts at Ad Hoc are the simplest – fresh berries, housemade granola and fresh whipped cream...just heavenly.
